They said “you’re going to eat that? “

I had a homemade chocolate chip cookie, the other day, from a plate that someone had brought to work. As I took my first bite I heard some very loud voices saying “are you really going to eat that?”. I wasn’t sure if there was a fire in the room or a crime had just been committed. As a regimented gym rat I think it is important for all of us to enjoy a few treats during the holiday season. I have been at goal weight for a long time and almost always eat healthy. It is important to allow yourself some of the wonderful foods during the holiday season. We set ourselves up for failure when our expectations are set too high. So I say love yourself,enjoy the little things, and remember everything in moderation.

No more scale for me

That’s right I will say it again no more scale for me. I think this is the first week that I can remember not weighing myself. I have been at goal for quite some time and  have continued to rely on the scale for my level of success.I have made the lifestyle changes including exercise and healthy diet so why do I need a number to tell me that I’m doing well. The reality is I don’t need one. So today I say goodbye scale.

When you’re new in the gym please don’t…………..

When you’re new in the gym please don’t hang your head or feel out of place.  I noticed a new person working out shyly when  I was at the gym on Monday night. I could see that they were intimidated by the gym rats. I wanted to go over and say “don’t give up!”. We were all there at one time, and the truth is, that we are all there to improve our body and mind. As a self professed gym rat I  want  you to know that it is such a great step that you have taken for your health. Despite what a few people say most of us are excited for you and want you to stick with it. So welcome to the club and let’s all improve our health at our own pace.

Staying Positive: When you look in the mirror today……..

When you look in the mirror today, observe yourself from the inside. There are too many times that we all look at small facial blemishes or wrinkles in our shirt rather than ourselves as a whole. I know it is easy for me to find many of my faults but today I am only going to look for the good within.

What beautiful weather for an off day from the gym

I just stepped outside to get some fresh air and couldn’t believe how beautiful it was outside. As I was taking in the fresh air I remembered that this is a rest day from the gym/yoga. I am feeling so connected and strong that I know this positive energy will carry over to tomorrows workout. It’s going to be so nice to hit my workout with this feeling. I know it will be a great one !

Don’t give up if you slipped this holiday weekend

I came back to work from the holiday weekend today and couldn’t believe how many people had talked about giving up their diet/program because of one bad weekend. It made me think that there are probably quite a few discouraged people out there today. My response to everyone feeling this way is that you can’t change yesterday and it’s okay to be human. Nothing worthwhile comes easy so we just need to keep moving forward one step at a time.

You can only fail when you say ” I Quit “

I saw this quote on the locker room wall this weekend where I practice yoga. I found it to be so appropriate for how my session had gone.  As a lifelong power lifter with little to no flexibility the ” just give up”  thought crept into my head. I was able to refocus and channel positive thoughts and had an awesome finish.  I read the sign one more time, as I left the locker room,  and told myself it’s my call if I succeed or fail.

Thought for today: You have the final say over whether you continue on or quit
