When you’re new in the gym please don’t…………..

When you’re new in the gym please don’t hang your head or feel out of place.  I noticed a new person working out shyly when  I was at the gym on Monday night. I could see that they were intimidated by the gym rats. I wanted to go over and say “don’t give up!”. We were all there at one time, and the truth is, that we are all there to improve our body and mind. As a self professed gym rat I  want  you to know that it is such a great step that you have taken for your health. Despite what a few people say most of us are excited for you and want you to stick with it. So welcome to the club and let’s all improve our health at our own pace.

Staying Positive: When you look in the mirror today……..

When you look in the mirror today, observe yourself from the inside. There are too many times that we all look at small facial blemishes or wrinkles in our shirt rather than ourselves as a whole. I know it is easy for me to find many of my faults but today I am only going to look for the good within.

New hand position for military presses

I am excited about this new “open hand” military press that I used today. I could definitely feel a different part of my shoulders being worked when performing this exercise. It feels good to mix up my routine.

What beautiful weather for an off day from the gym

I just stepped outside to get some fresh air and couldn’t believe how beautiful it was outside. As I was taking in the fresh air I remembered that this is a rest day from the gym/yoga. I am feeling so connected and strong that I know this positive energy will carry over to tomorrows workout. It’s going to be so nice to hit my workout with this feeling. I know it will be a great one !

Today I am only going to do the exercise that is difficult

So this past week I have found myself really enjoying some of my favorite workout routines. As I finished my 90 degree pull-ups, which is my favorite, I started to think that maybe the reason I like them so much is because they have become easy for me. So today I am going to do exercises that I have had difficulty with and challenge my body for performance improvement. I am already getting excited about tonight’s workout knowing that I it will be tougher than usual but the payoff will be worth it.

let’s begin by saying its going to be a great day

I started my morning off today by telling myself its going to be a great day. I truly believe that if you can stay positive for the first 5 minutes of your morning those positive thoughts will stay with you.I plan on seeing the good in everyone today and believe that they all have the best of intentions. I wish everyone a great day and stay positive.

Have you thanked yourself for your workout today

A couple of months ago I wrote how I had started yoga to improve my range of motion. I have improved beyond my initial expectation  and am pleased with the way it has improved my weightlifting performance. What I am most excited about though is the way that it has changed my ability to focus. It’s not just being able to maintain a body position or breath correctly.Yoga  has made me focus on my every heartbeat and the goal of self improvement for 90 minutes. I am mostly excited for learning to appreciate how  hard I am working at improving my body.

 

 

Thought for today: Take the time to appreciate the effort you give for each  workout.
